From Civil War Trust:
Save Mill Springs & PerryvilleThe Civil War Trust has announced two separate preservation campaigns targeting key battlefield parcels at two of Kentucky's most important battlefields. Our new Perryville campaign includes some of the bloodiest land on the battlefield. Our new Mill Springs campaign will help save land at the very center of this historic battlefield where the Union army earned its first major battlefield victory. | |||||||||||
FROM OUR PRESIDENTJanuary 2012 Dear Civil War Preservationist, 2011 proved to be a remarkable year for the Civil War Trust. With your help, we saved 2,042 acres of endangered battlefield land spanning 39 different transactions at 25 different battlefields in 12 different states! With all of these important campaigns, our total saved acreage now tops 32,000. Despite all of our many 2011 successes, we are determined not to rest on our laurels. Already, in the first month of 2012, we have announced two battlefield preservation campaigns in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. And I can tell you that these tracts at Perryville and Mill Springs are the real deal -- land that Northerners and Southerners fought over to determine the course of the Civil War. I do hope that you will continue to help us reach new heights in saving our American Civil War battlefields, starting with these two new transactions. - Jim Lighthizer, Civil War Trust President 'LITERALLY COVERED WITH THE DEAD AND DYING'CEDAR CREEK CAMPAIGN KICK-OFFNEW BATTLE OF PERRYVILLE PAGE10 FACTS ABOUT THE BATTLE OF MILL SPRINGSA CIVIL WAR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONVIDEO: BALL'S BLUFF WITH ROGER MUDDBATTLE OF PERRYVILLE QUIZ150TH: BATTLE OF ROANOKE ISLANDJANUARY CIVIL WAR BATTLESDISPATCHES FROM THE FRONT LINESCivil War preservation news from around the country
